Remnants of a watchtower on a hill above the cape of Agios Ioannis (official name) or cape of Aforesmenos (Gr: αφορεσμένος=damned).

History

There was a small fort at the cape in the Venetian period and the watchtower on the hill above the cape. A lighthouse replaced the fort while the ruins of the watchtower still stand.

The fortified position is mentioned in the Venetian list of watchtowers of the year 1590 and later of the year 1633 in which some more details are given about the garrison: should be manned by 6 men from the nearby village Fourni and should be equipped with a small canon.
