Dafnonas is a village at the center of Chios island, around 10km south of the city of Chios.

At the upper part of the village there are ruins of medieval buildings which are the remains of the (apparently) fortified medieval settlement of Dafnonas.

The village was founded in a different place and was transferred in its present location after 1000 AD. The “castle” must have started to develop then (in the 11th century) and continued to evolve and be extended up to the last years of Ottoman rule. It is categorized as “Genoan” making the case that the remains of the medieval village we see today come mainly from the period Chios was a Genoan territory (mid 14th to mid 16th century), as the majority of medieval monuments on the island.

Around the village there are several more towers and medieval remains, some of which are not yet included in Kastrologos, like the tower of Ververato etc.
