At the south side of the village Margariti in Epirus there is a castle which was built by the Ottomans in 1549 over the remains of an ancient and Byzantine fortification.

The castle was briefly captured by the Venetians in 1571 after an epic battle depicted in the painting "The Capture of Margariti" by Antonio Vassilacchi (Doge's Palace, Venice - see "Artwork" section above)

Approach to the monument:
The small town of Margariti is on the NR from Preveza to Igoumenitsa. The castle is on a hill at the entrance.
Entrance:
Free access but it is difficult to approach most parts of the castle.
