History

The history of the fortification is unknown. Obviously it was a castle-refuge. It was a Venetian construction according to the road-sign outside Raftis (though one cannot rely on local signs). The Venetian origin is confirmed by the guard-post (guardiola) which is of a characteristic Venetian design.

The Venetians were present in the area only for a period of 30 years between 1687-1715. So, we can be certain that the time of construction was late 17th century or early 18th.

There are no historical records for the construction or the usage of the fortification.
