Towers and Mansions of Naxos

In the island of Naxos in Cyclades, there are many towers that belong to a special sort of mansions (and sometimes monasteries) with defensive characteristics. They belonged to the rich landlords of the island and they were mostly summer resorts. Their owners were Venetians and seldom Greeks. The majority of these towers were built in the 17th century.
They are important monuments but being basically old villas they do not qualify to be included in the mainstream castles and towers of Greece (with some exceptions)
Some of the tower of Naxos, the most typical ones, are included in an individual page in the site o Kastrologos. The rest (the 44 known so far) are presented in the map below (where, by the way, the regular castles are not included).
