This is the acropolis of the ancient Trizina. The location was inhabited during the Middle Ages although it is not mentioned by Byzantine sources. In the 13th century, the local baron converted it to a Franksih castle of minor importance.
The Byzantines took back the castle after 1382, as part of the Despotate of Moreas. The Turks occupied the area, and the castle, some time in the middle of the 16th century.
