A monastery with several fortification characteristics on the rock above the village Kastro of Sikinos island in Cyclades. “Kastro” is the old part of Chora of Sikinos.
The monastery was built in 1690. Considering that this happened towards the end of the era of piracy in the Aegean, it is very possible that the castle existed before the foundation of the monastery and provided a refuge for the local population against pirate raids.
