Ruins of an ancient castle, which was also used during the Byzantine Period, on a hill west of the village of Tsouka (or, officially, Tsoukka) of Evrytania, 1.5 km from the northeastern edge of Lake Kremasta.

The village consists of two neighborhoods/settlements. The smaller of the two is “Ano Tsouka” which is located higher and further west, on the slopes of the hill of the castle.

We copy from the Permanent List of Declared Archaeological Sites of the Ministry of Culture:

The top of the hill there is surrounded by a fortification of the Classical-Hellenistic period and the area has been designated an archaeological site.
The fortification is preserved in places at a height of 8 stone layers (3.50 m).
A gate of the wall and two quadrangular towers are also preserved.
Visible residential remains have been spotted within the enclosure, which are associated with the use of the area in the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods.

We do not know anything more about the castle. We do not know the name of the ancient city nor the name of the Byzantine settlement, which must have been abandoned during the Ottoman occupation.
From the form of the ruins, we conclude that the ancient city must have been relatively important, while the Byzantine settlement was not.
