A fortified cave in the vertical rocks below a hill with a chapel of Prophet Elias. The site is located approximately 700 meters northwest of the village of Armpounas in the Kalavryta region, in Achaea.
Somewhere around there is a second similar fortified cave, probably smaller, named “Parathyraki” (meaning small window).
In Kastrologos we have no information about the history or the dating of the “Chtisti Spilia» (meaning Built Cave).
This type of fortified caves served as a refuge for the local population during the Turkokratia. It is also very possible that the cave was the lair of a kleftis during that period.
The most likely time of construction is around the 18th century - perhaps a little earlier or a little later.
