On the top of the hill of Karyoupolis, in Mani, there is the highly visible Kosonakos tower and right next to it a bigger -but lower- fortification, the Kavallieratos-Fokas Fort. The fort was built in the beginning of the 19th century, probably on the foundations of a pre-existing medieval castle..
The village of Karyopolis should not be confused with the Old Karyopolis which is a medieval town (abandoned and ruined today) and is located a few kilometers to the west of the modern Karyopolis.

| Like all Mani towers, the access to the surroundings is free without difficulty, but the entrance is not possible. The fort is usually closed unless a visit can be arranged with the authorities or the owner. |
