A ruined Frankish castle on a rock at the center of the mountainous west part of Arcadia, which was called Scorta by the Franks who occupied the region in the 13th and 14th century.

History

It was built around 1290 by the ruler of the Principality of Achaea, Florent de Hainaut .

In 1296 the castle was captured by the Greeks of the Despotate of Mystras. The Prince of the Principality of Achaea Florent de Hainaut died the same year, during his campaign to recapture the castle.

The Aragonese version of the Chronicle of Morea reports that in 1320 the leader of the Teutonic Knights was killed there in a skirmish with the Greeks.

The Byzantines recaptured the castle in 1320. It was taken without fight by the Ottomans in 1460 and it was destroyed.
