Medieval tower on an elevated site 1 kilometer east of the village of Vasilika in Northern Evia. It is located between the village and the sea, from which it is about 700 meters away.

The tower is square with dimensions of about 5✖5m. All its sides are preserved but at a height that does not exceed 2 meters.
Today the tower is not easily spotted as it is hidden by buildings and trees. At its original height, which must have been 8-10 meters, the tower would dominate the area and would have excellent visibility to the east, to the coasts of Northern Evia and to the Aegean Sea.

We don't know anything about the history of this tower. Perhaps it was a 14th or 15th century Venetian cosntruction like most towers in Evia. However, its masonry seems to differ from other Venetian towers.
Thus, we shall tentatively label him “Frankish” (without being certain), based on the observation that it does not appear to be either Byzantine or Venetian.

The location where the tower is located has the toponym “Paliokastro” (=old castle). The name does not originate from the tower but from the remains of a nearby Neolithic settlement. It seems that the plateau where the tower is located has been inhabited since prehistoric times.
According to the Archaeological Service, the entire surrounding elevated area has been designated a “Archaeological Site” (Government Gazette: 921/Β/1984-12-31) with “traces of the Neolithic PE and ME installation [i.e. findings before 5300 BC], as well as ruins from classical and later periods”.
